This past school year, we had 27 fantastic schools reach the ultimate goal of Gold-Level School! Also known as being a Project UNIFY School, this is a very admirable accomplishment for schools involved in our Schools Partnership Program! To see the full list of 2012-13 Gold-Level Schools, please click here.
These 27 schools have done at least three activations with Special Olympics Northern California while bringing acceptance and respect to their schools. Some examples of activations are:
Take the Cool School Challenge and join the fun in our annual Polar Plunge
Students help out as volunteers, fans in the stands, peer partners or help coach our athletes at a Special Olympics Schools Partnership Program sports competition
Hold a Spread the Word to End the Word campaign at their school so that students realize the hurtful effects of the word retard and replace it with respect
You can see about some of the activations in these previous blog posts:
- Video by Lowell High School about why you shouldn’t use the r-word
- Cheerleading peers in this post about the Dublin track meet
- Video interview with a student volunteer at Bay Area Games
We are so proud of our Gold-Level Schools and cannot wait for the school year to get here so we can get more of you on board! To read more about gold-level schools and why whole-school involvement is so important, please click here.
